Mount Kilimanjaro Machame Route Overview
Embark on an unforgettable journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro via the famous Machame Route, often referred to as the “Whiskey Route.” Known for its spectacular scenery and excellent acclimatization profile, this route offers an incredible opportunity to experience Africa’s highest mountain while trekking through diverse ecological zones.
Route & Terrain
The Machame Route takes you through lush rainforest, heather and moorland, alpine desert, and glacial summit terrain. Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Wall, Kibo Peak, and Mawenzi Peak. The route includes some steep sections and moderate scrambling, particularly on the Barranco Wall.
Duration & Trekking Experience
This 9-day itinerary includes 6 days on the mountain, providing sufficient time for acclimatization and increasing the chances of a successful summit. Daily trekking times range from 3 to 8 hours, with the summit day requiring 12 to 16 hours of hiking.
Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation includes comfortable hotel stays in Moshi before and after the climb, along with mountain camping throughout the trek. Spacious tents, sleeping mattresses, dining tents, and freshly prepared meals are provided by the mountain crew.
Summit Experience
The highlight of the trek is reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Witness a spectacular sunrise from the summit and enjoy breathtaking views across glaciers, volcanic landscapes, and the African plains below.

The best seasons for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro are:
