4-Day Wildebeests Migration Calving Period

Following a morning pick-up and detailed safari briefing, you’ll depart Arusha with a packed lunch in hand and begin your scenic journey to the Ndutu region. The drive covers approximately 260 kilometers and takes about 5.5 hours. After about two hours on the road, you’ll enter the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where the terrain transforms from lush highland forests to sweeping grasslands — a visual cue that you’re approaching the iconic Serengeti ecosystem.

Ndutu lies at the heart of the southern migration route, where between December and April, millions of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes gather for the calving season. The plains come alive with newborns and heightened predator activity, offering some of the most dramatic wildlife encounters on the continent. The area is also known for its rich biodiversity and is home to all six big cat species. Nearby Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek act as vital water sources, drawing animals year-round.

After breakfast, you’ll set off on a morning game drive through the Ndutu plains, a final chance to catch the drama of the calving season and predator activity. With a picnic lunch enjoyed in the wild, you’ll then begin your journey toward the Ngorongoro Crater rim — a drive of about 75 kilometers taking approximately 2.5 hours.

Along the way, you’ll encounter scattered wildlife and take in the changing landscape as you ascend from the plains into the lush, elevated highlands of Ngorongoro. Arriving in the late afternoon, you'll settle into your lodge perched on the crater rim, offering spectacular views into this ancient volcanic caldera — one of Africa’s most iconic natural wonders.

Your final safari day begins early with a light breakfast before descending into the Ngorongoro Crater at around 6:30 a.m. Often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," this vast, unbroken volcanic caldera stretches 260 square kilometers across and plunges over 600 meters deep, offering one of the richest concentrations of wildlife on the continent.

During a 5–6 hour game drive on the crater floor, you’ll have excellent chances to spot black rhinos, elephants, buffalos, hippos, lions, hyenas, and possibly even cheetahs. The morning concludes with a picnic lunch near the scenic hippo pool.

After lunch, you’ll ascend the steep crater walls and begin the final stretch — a 4-hour drive back to Arusha. You’ll be dropped off at your preferred location in the city or transferred directly to the airport for your onward journey.
